The Canadian Tax Slip Checklist: What You Need Before Filing in 2026

If you’re Canadian and no one taught you what to look for to save money when filing your taxes, you’re not alone 🇨🇦.

Here’s a list of important tax slips that can help you keep more money in your pocket and avoid CRA troubles this tax season:

Employment Income:

📄 T4 - If you had a job in 2025, your employer should send you this slip. It shows your earnings and how much tax was deducted.

📄 T2200 – If you're eligible to deduct work-from-home expenses like home office costs, vehicle expenses, or supplies, your employer must complete this form for you.

Self-Employed & Freelancers:

📄 T4A – If you received contract work payments

📄 T2125 – To report your business income & expenses, including home office, vehicle, and supplies.

Investment Income:

Did you make money from investments in a non-registered account? Keep an eye out for:

📄 T5 – Interest & Dividends

📄 T3 – Mutual funds & ETFs

📄 T5008 – Capital gains/losses from trading stocks

📄 T4PS – If your employer gave you extra money from company profits, like dividends, a bonus, or a reward for being part of a profit-sharing plan.

RRSP & FHSA Contributions:

Contributed to your RRSP or FHSA?

📄 Grab your RRSP Deduction Receipt or T4FHSA

✅ Use these to claim your deduction and lower your taxable income

RRSP & FHSA Withdrawals:

Withdrew money from your RRSP or FHSA?

📄 T4RSP – RRSP withdrawals

📄 T4FHSA – FHSA withdrawals

Tuition & Education Credits:

If you're a student, you might qualify for tuition tax credits!

📄 Your school will provide a T2202 form for Canadian schools or a TL11A for international institutions.

Other Slips to Watch For:
